Because the Snow

Because the snow falls without a sound

And covers us in a veil of white

And the cold bristles against your cheek

On this starry deep blue night.

Because you walk here next to me

And light your eyes with a laugh and smile

And every slippery slide upon the ice

Allows me to hold you for a while.

Because the trees listen to our stories

And quietly murmur while we both talk

They must feel the joy that leaps in my heart

With every step during every walk.

Because the cold wind blows its chills

And yet somehow it sparks this fire

All the silence in this wintery world

Is more sublime than any choir.

Because the snow fills up my heart

And the moonlight bathes the world in blue

There is no cold, no heat, no music

To equal the sensation of you.
