Let Me Go On

Slowly crushed beneath this millstone that

Rests burdensome upon my chest,

A stone carved of desire and longing

And warm with unquenchable heat.

Breath rasps beneath this heaviness of dreams

That arrive like spectres to haunt and confound

Heaving and heaping more weight

Irresistibly and endlessly.

Gladly face the pain of the coming night and cold

With the light from her eyes to guide me home.
