Gratitude

I usually shy away from ever rhyming, but sometimes, my sentimental side takes over and demands a voice.  It’s not my favorite, but it’s heartfelt.

Pulled down into dark water

In an ocean from the past,

There was nothing left to swim for

Every breath was fading fast.

And suddenly a peacefulness

Filled up the space around me.

Somewhere beyond belief

Something good had found me.

Maybe you’re an angel

Sent to help me fight.

All there was before you

Was a life without your light.

Eyes like stars in the night

A smile as soft as morning

You lifted up my heart

And stole it without warning.

Every day I wake up

And wish that you were there.

I long to see your face

And the laughter that you share.

My life has come so far

Since you have filled my heart.

I have nothing but thanks to offer

For giving me a new start.
